Apple

Though I am windows based I have to admit that I love Mac OS X. it is so simple and easy to use, it is an enjoyment to use. I have an Intel Mac Mini, the specs are:

The mac mini is absolutely tiny and silent, you only get slight humming noise from the fan if you listen closely. It runs quite well out of the box, but i found that the 512mb of ram was not enough. I stuck in 2gb of ram and found that it ran a lot more smoother. I was able to have multiple applications running at the same time and see no slow down.

One thing that took me a while to get use to with Mac OS X was finding similar applications that i was used to on windows.

Here is a list of applications that i think are the best for Mac OS X.

Adium – Adium is a free instant messaging application for Mac OS X that can connect to AIM, MSN, Jabber, Yahoo, and more.

AppZapper – AppZapper, the Mac uninstaller.

Burn – burning application for Mac OS X.

Colloquy – Colloquy is an advanced IRC, SILC & ICB client.

Cyberduck – Cyberduck is an open source FTP and SFTP (SSH Secure File Transfer) browser.

GraphicConverter – this is a great graphic editor, it is simple and easy to use with some powerful tools. It is just as good as gimp but has better performance.

Growl – Growl is a notification system for Mac OS X.

iBurn360 – Burn backups of your precious XBOX360 original game media.

Onyx – OnyX is a multifunction utility (maintenance, optimisation, and personalisation).

SuperDuper – it makes creating a fully bootable backup painless.

TextMate – The Missing Editor for Mac OS X.

Transmission – Transmission is a free, lightweight BitTorrent client.

UnRarX – UnRarX is a Mac OS X Cocoa application that allows you to expand rar archives.

VLC – the cross-platform media player and streaming server.

HTTPMAIL – access your hotmail account in mail.

I also love the way Front Row works. the only downside is that DivX is not compatible.

There is a simple way to get your DivX and XviD movies to playback in quicktime and frontrow. Perian is a QuickTime component which includes all the codecs that you will need. You will also need Flip4Mac to play back wmv video files.
